Benefits of 3D Scanning

3D scanning provides us with a three-dimensional view of your head, neck, mouth, and face. Your surgeon can view these scans from virtually every angle, detect hidden health problems, and map out every detail of surgical procedures. 3D scans are exceptionally useful when creating treatment plans for our patients and provide many benefits:

  • They reveal the location of facial nerves and other structures, which your surgeon can avoid during surgery to prevent complications.
  • Digital scans are easy to share with other members of your care team for seamless collaboration.
  • CBCT scans expose patients to less radiation compared to traditional X-rays.
  • One scan takes only a few seconds to complete.

Using 3D Scans in Our Practice

During the consultation appointment, we will likely take 3D scans of your mouth and face if you have not already had them taken. A member of our team will position you at the machine, which will rotate around your head for a few seconds. We will be able to view these images immediately and detect oral health issues, diagnose your condition, and design your custom treatment plan all during this initial visit.

All of our offices are also equipped with intraoral scanners. These handheld imaging devices are lightweight and easy to use. We will hold the device in your mouth and take 3D scans of the hard and soft tissues. These images then produce a 3D model of your mouth and eliminate the need for traditional putty molds.

By using these advanced technologies, our team at Akeso Oral, Facial & Dental Implant Surgery can provide better care to our patients. To learn more about 3D scanning or to schedule your consultation, please contact our practice.
